Weirdwood Manor at Word on the Street Toronto
On Sunday, we packed up our power cords along with a half-dozen iPads and brought the All Play, No Work team to Word on the Street, the annual book and magazine fair celebrating literacy and the printed word. The event is held every September in cities across Canada. This year, the Toronto festival inaugurated a new home at Harbourfront Centre, where crowds of book lovers mingled with authors and publishers under bright blue skies.
This was a great opportunity for the All Play, No Work team to meet a broad range of kids and their parents and to introduce them to The Incredible Tales of Weirdwood Manor — a magical interactive book series for creative minds and busy hands, 6 – 12 years old. The book series has been created exclusively for the iPad and is now available in the App Store.
Our developers were on hand to guide kids through Book 1 of the five book series. But, as any parent with an iPad knows most kids don’t need much help to discover mysterious hidden objects or solve challenging games and puzzles.
In addition to experiencing the Weirdwood Manor app, visitors to the booth could also meet illustrator Anna Earley and 3d artist Crystal Fernandez to learn how the story’s hidden artifacts were developed (from Anna) or how the 3d characters were animated (from Crystal).
Our favourite Weirdwood Manor characters also made an appearance, including the brilliant wordsmith — Celia!
All in all, it was a wonderful day and as you can see below, the reviews couldn’t have been better!
